Typisch Spielerfrau - der Amber-McIvor-Blog (3)
Typisch Spielerfrau?! And now let’s switch to English!
Seasons Greetings,
I hope that the last few weeks have treated everyone well. They have treated me to about 5 pounds due to my many Christmas market trips! Since the last time I wrote my parents have left, my Christmas shopping is done, our tree is up, and the house for the first time in two weeks is clean.
While my parents were here it sometimes felt a little like someone trying to squeeze a few extra people into a smart car. They stayed in Peyton’s room therefore all of her toys came into ours. I would crawl in bed at night to find approximately 4 Legos, 1 doll, a lolli-pop, and her socks in my sheets and of course I wouldn’t put those toys away, I would just throw them onto the floor. This makes waking up In the middle of the night to use the restroom like walking through a minefield. Although you cannot see the toys, you know they are there and stepping on a Barbie shoe while you’re half asleep is the equivalent to stepping on a bed of nails.
Once my parents were on their way back to the United States Riley and I spent the entire day cleaning and scrubbing our house until it was back in order. We had a news crew coming to the house the following day and I was not about to let them see our mess. I was so nervous for them to show up and film us in “real life.” Real life is me cleaning up spilt milk, being bossed around by a 3 year old, staring at Pinterest, and for the most part not getting out of my pajamas till noon! The day the came I made sure we were up and ready for them, although we did have some minor hitches.
I had to take Peyton to get an influenza shot before they arrived and the house was still messy from baking the night before. Riley was supposed to get a ride home from the rink and start cleaning up but alas I had both sets of keys! It was taking longer than expected to be seen by the doctor and I was panicking as the minutes passed. Riley showed up at the doctors to get the spare keys and once Peyton had received her shot and stopped screaming at the doctor we headed home to find Riley and Ty scrubbing away at the house like two little maids. It was beautiful! The interview went off without any problems, or at least there were no problems that I couldn’t bribe Peyton with candy to get out of.
Peyton and I accomplished all of our Christmas shopping yesterday, and then some. During the holidays my family bakes a lot, my mother and my brother are both cooks therefore the holidays are full of delicious treats. Peyton and I decided we wanted to do some holiday baking and so I spent the other night looking up a few recipes online and some from my mother. Unfortunately at least one thing from every recipe I wanted to make I couldn’t find and now I have about $100 dollars worth of baking items and still I can’t complete once recipe. So today we will venture out to find things like red sanding sugar, mini marshmallows, molasses, food coloring, sprinkles, and so on.
Speaking of baking, it often crosses my mind why there are not more overweight people in Germany. Maybe it is just that we have less self-control but I have the hardest time passing a bakery and not stopping in to get something. Seriously, every other store is a chocolate store, a bakery, or a coffee shop. No word of a lie I have stopped into one bakery ordered a pretzel and a cookie, walked a few stores down and then ordered apfel strudel and a coffee. The Christmas markets are the worse; so many wonderful smells I feel like I am obligated to try one of everything and I love the sandwiches with the sausages on them. YUM! That all being said I now have a membership to FitPlus!
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and that the New Year brings wonderful adventures for you and your families. As I look back over the last year I am grateful for the experiences we have had and the opportunities we have been given. Most of all, I am thankful that Peyton and I were allowed to spend the season with Riley in this beautiful city. From our family to yours we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years.
Until next time…
Amber
