Typisch Spielerfrau - der Amber-McIvor-Blog

Typisch Spielerfrau?!

Servus Everyone,

I hope that you have all been well! I don’t know if anyone else felt the same way, but it was weird not having hockey games for the past two weeks. Riley and I were both excited and nervous at the same time for his first game after the break. There was no need to be nervous though, we won 10-1 with a hat trick for Andy Geipel! Well played boys!

During the break we had two birthdays, Riley and Peyton’s! For Riley’s birthday, I took him and Peyton on a surprise trip to Sweden! While the team was out of town playing the last game before the break, I packed up his bags and hid them in the car. The next day I woke him before the sun and told him very sweetly to shut up, get dressed, and come with me!

He was grumpy to say the least until we arrived at the airport and he figured out what the airport code CPH meant. To meet us in Sweden was his brother Colby, sister-in-law Mel, and their kinder Mila and Cruise. Since Peyton just turned 3 she has not been enrolled into kindergarten and has had very little interaction with kids her age unfortunately, so her and Cruise (same age as Peyton) were just running around crazy the entire time!

It was awesome to have some good family time to start off the holiday season.  Unfortunately, once the German cup was over, so was our break and we had to head home. Although the time was short it was well spent. Then, it was Peyton’s 3rd birthday, and we threw a little party with pizza and cake, it was wonderful.

The cake maybe not so much, it was my first time making a cake since we arrived in Landshut and I am still a little confused as to what is what in the grocery store. I was making a cake that I have made a million times back home, it is a yellow cake with whipped cream frosting and strawberries; one my mother has made for almost every single birthday of mine.

It’s an hour before people come over and I start to make the frosting, as I am whipping the cream it starts to break down, I send Riley out in a panic to buy more cream. It is now 30 minutes till guests arrive and I start my second attempt at the frosting, it falls again! Now that I have ten minutes till people get here I go into full panic mode, Riley calls my girlfriend Jenny to see if her and Max can pick up a cake, but it is too late and all the bakeries have closed!

Now that I am a complete mess, crying and what not that Peyton won’t have a cake, I call my mom and she tells me to calm down and whip up some buttercream frosting. It works but tastes like straight sugar; I think all the German players and their girlfriend’s taste buds were destroyed. You don’t really find sweet frosting here like you do in the states and this particular frosting was as sweet as they come.

Anyways, the rest of the night went just as planned, we ate the cake, opened a few presents which included one larger than Peyton sized stuffed teddy bear thanks to Josh, and we just enjoyed each others company and tried to plan what we would do for the holidays!

For us in America, it is almost time for Thanksgiving and lucky for me my parents arrive in less than a week, and my mother will be doing all the cooking! The holidays for us is really a time for giving, and we have been looking for things to do that would benefit the community. In the states, during the holidays especially, there are a lot of opportunities to give back, such as the food drive, soup kitchens, giving gifts to children’s shelters, orphanages, visiting hospitals, and so on.

We would love to participate in something like this here but I can’t seem to find anything. If anyone knows of a program or has an idea of something we can do as a family or even as a team please, please let me know! You can comment the idea on this blog or send me a tweet (@AMXstein) it would be greatly appreciated!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, let me say Thank you to everyone for the wonderful support that you have given our family, Riley, and the team! I think its great the amount of fans that come to the games, it really makes the team want to excel when they see everyone out there cheering!

I love seeing so many people in the stands supporting the players with the jerseys and scarves and drums, I think it’s awesome!! You don’t get that in the states and it makes it really unique! In fact, a few games back I saw a man right above the penalty box wearing what I am sure was three jerseys, a hat, and more EVL scarves then I have in my closet…and that’s A LOT!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week and I hope to see you all at Friday’s game. Until next time….

Amber
