Typisch Spielerfrau - der Amber-McIvor-Blog (5)
Hallo Everyone,
I hope you all have been well. I am not sure who already knows this, but I recently came to the conclusion that the sun hates the city of Landshut! Riley and I can literally drive 20 Km out of the city on any given day, in any direction, and we are greeted by the sun. It’s as if the sun is taunting me by looming right outside the city limits, just far enough away that not one single ray of sunlight gets in.
Every morning when I wake up, Peyton comes barging into the room asking me to make her breakfast. I tell her to go open the living room door and see if the sun is up first. I have yet to receive a definite YES! It is always “yes, well kind of” or “nope” and some days she flat out refuses to check telling me there is no sun.
On days like these I find it very hard to accomplish anything. Sometimes I video chat my parents in the evening and I am still wearing the same pajamas I had on the day before, because I never took them off. I felt that putting on pants without an elastic waistband would be a total waste of time, because I knew I wasn’t leaving the house that day.
So what does one foreign family do all day in a 900 square foot flat with one broken hockey player and a 3 year old? Well for starters, the broken hockey player gets to lie on the couch and pretty much ring a bell when he wants or needs something due to the fact he’s injured. Luckily he can wipe his own butt because my butt-wiping limit is 2 and those are filled!
I know most of you have kids, so I am hoping I am not the only mom who feels this way. Peyton needs a kindergarten! Like any good mom I do various activities with her throughout the day. One that I have recently put on my “never do again” list is puzzles. Now this seems like such an easy task, watching/helping your kid do puzzles, but it’s not, it’s painful.
Peyton is so good at puzzles that with any help at all she finishes them within minutes, so I told myself at the beginning I was not going to help, just sit and encourage her. As frustrating as this is to watch and not help, I keep my calm. There are four puzzles to this set and each have no more than 20 pieces. We have managed the first two quite well but my patience is being tested and for some reason the third puzzle confuses her (we have done this puzzle a hundred times).
She takes a piece with one of the characters eyes on it and she scourers the remaining pieces for a potential partner. Now to an adult it is clear as day you pick the puzzle with the other eye, but I have to remind myself she is only three.
She is holding this one eyed puzzle piece while looking for its match for what seems like an hour, eventually she picks up a piece and tries to make them fit. Does she pick up the piece with the other eye…NO, the piece had a flower, A FLOWER. It is taking all of my will power at this point not to pick up the other eye and slam the pieces together, but I just sit and wait until she has exhausted all other options and is left with the remaining eye puzzle piece. It’s a match! She then picks up one with a foot and I can’t take it anymore. There is no way I can sit through another body part matching fiasco like I did with the eyes. Mom’s done!
That my friend is why Riley is now the official puzzle partner! I would rather up my limit of butt whipping to 3 than sit through another puzzle at this point. There are many other simple tasks that turn into nightmares throughout our day like eating for instance. Peyton only believes in two basic food groups, one being candy and the other being McDonalds and heaven forbid you put something on her plate that’s green. But since I have rambled on about puzzles for an entire page I will leave it at that. Also, Riley has decided its time to exercise and is stomping around like a Clydesdale doing lunges and it’s very hard to concentrate.
Until next time…
